Making good money from your blog - John Chow dot Com
Here's a revenue chart I wish I had:
John Chow, a Vancouver, Canada based blogger, has taken his blog from $0 to $7,011.05 through a combination of hard work, prolific posting and smart monetization:
In just six months, I have taken this blog from zero to well beyond what many people would consider a good full time income. How did I do this?
In the post linked to above, John covers in detail his mix of revenue streams, lessons learned and course corrections made. Definitely have a look at John's (as of now) 61 posts over the last six months detailing each and every move he's made.
Now John did not just one day decide he was going to try out this new Internet thing – He's the founder and editor in chief of The Tech Zone, a site dedicated – obsessed some would say – to bringing its readers the very latest computer hardware news. But his blog, John Chow dot Com, started from scratch a little over six months ago.
Reading through his blog, it's clear John's found a winning formula for the kind of blog John wants to do:
Link Reviews. This is a truly evil/good idea! John's up to batch 31 (10 sites apiece) Link Reviews. Here's how it works:
The concept is simple - review my blog and I'll link to your review. The review must be at least 200 words long and you have to include a link to the blog home page and this post. You are free to link to any other posts as well. You are to be completely honest with the review - state what you like and don't like about the site. It doesn't matter what categories your blog covers and it doesn't have to be in English. I will accept all reviews.
Is John gaming the Blogosphere? Yes. Is there anything wrong with that? Depends on what you want to achieve with your blog, but the short answer is no; John's playing to win.
Contests. John runs contests, contests, contests and his readers love him for it. Again, John's come up with a winning formula that would work for a lot of blogs. You enter the contest by posting a blog about it, linking back to John Chow and more importantly to the company who sponsored the contest's prize. John gets more links, the sponsor gets more links and someone walks away with a nice techie toy.
Praise your Commenters, love your fellow Bloggers. John lavishes his many commenters with praise, attention and responses second only to the time and attention he gives other bloggers.
Sex and cars sell. When John is not blogging a contest, linkback, about bloggers, about the process of making money with his blog he's posting on topics sure to catch the attention of his core market such as iPod vibrators, one night stand etiquette videos and car reviews. Crass, shameless, unserious, scandalous? Maybe to some – but this is John's blog, he's writes about what he wants, and he's is laughing all the way to the online bank.

Yeah john chow is a good writer...wow i didnt know he jumped so quickly in the earning scale...
